I bought this doll at a garage sale last Friday nite. I almost didn't take her with me.-she's so dirty and worn(usually I like this) and just not my style. But her sweet smile, price ($6), and the fact that I had never seen one before intriqued me-and when you turn her over there's these little raised areas-any ideas out there?
What an unusual doll. . . Her little face is so sweet. I have never seen one like her. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a sweet comment. Hope you will come back again.
Oh my, that's a Kewpie doll!!! She looks to be an old one, too. She's fabulous. You may want to check her out online. I know some of them go for a few hundred dollars in good shape. I'm not sure what she'd be worth. I'm not positive what the raised shoulder pieces are. Oh, nifty, Rebecca. She's a find if I do say so myself. I'd have bought her in a heartbeat. I hope you can find out more about her.
Hope you have a great November day, Susan @ CluckleBees
Don't know, but that looks like a doll my sister had, and then I saw it on an appraisal show and it turned out being valuable.. Hope you find some anwers!
How cute is that? She does look like one! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for your nice comment! I've loved my visit to your fun blog, too~ I adore your dogs!! Looking forward to reading more~ I am a new follower...
I love a rag doll. She looks very Cupie. Thanks for the sweet comment you left on my blog! I love Victoria mag so that was about the highest compliment you could pay me. Thanks again!! Sherry
Awwww! how sweet and oh so old looking :) what a great deal you got! Thank you for your visit to my recycled holiday gifting post. I hope it inspired a great gifting idea for you:) See you soon, have an inspired weekend. xx Dore
I think you have scored big on that little doll....she's definitely old. I give up on the little things on her back....hope you let us know if you find out what they are! HPS....dana
She is adorable. Glad you got her--she spoke to you I think. For some reason I am thinking those have to do with how her clothes attached to her. I could be totally wrong but I think I've seen that in older dolls my mom had. Amy
I too vote for Kewpie doll. Her face is so sweet, but I have no idea about those tabs on the back. The idea about using them to hang the doll to dry sounds good to me. Happy Pink Saturday!
The very second I saw it, I thought it was a Kewpie doll too. I've never seen a cloth version, but my cousin had her mother's childhood Kewpie doll.
I have no idea what the flaps are. I know there for forums for doll collectors, and I'm sure there are people who research Kewpie. They might be able to tell you what those flaps on the back are. If you ever find out, let us know what they are for.
Hmmm I love a good mystery. My guess would be that (if the tabs are somewhat stiff) perhaps they could be held, by the child, while playing with her....sort of like a puppet. The owner would be behind the doll & could make her sway or "walk". Just a guess. Hope you find out what they are really for! Licks & Wags, Niki
Wow, I've never see those things on the back. Theface looks like something I've seen before. I bet you have a real find because it's so unusual. Keep us posted..... gail
Your doll is very cute and I think she may be a Kewpie doll. Her face looks just like the Kewpie's. I can see that she is handmade and I think the things on her shoulders are wings....would be interested to see what you find out if you research her. Happy Pink Saturday, Char
She's pretty cute and a little on the scary side if you were to come upon her in a dark attic! Love all the pink hair in the previous post. I want pink hair but my hair is dark and I imagine the pink shows up better on all those little blond heads!
I have no clue. I would use them to hang her up to dry with.
ReplyDeleteAwww she has the cutest face. I don't know anything about dolls, but hopefully someone will know something! Thanks for linking up to Junkin Finds.

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little doll. Adorable face. I'm sure someone will know what the tabs are.
ReplyDeleteI checked out your little doll and those are wings. That makes her an "official Kewpie" doll. I think you made a great find.

ReplyDeleteYour little doll is adorable. No clue what those little shoulder things are for though. I never find cool stuff like that at our garage sales...alas.
